VIA 'Canadian' passes under the brand new signal rack at CN Quaker, entering the home stretch enroute to Toronto Union Station. No Rocky Mountains here. What used to be an ‘off-the-beaten-track” CN rail siding has transformed into the site of GO Transit’s new, massive, and not-yet-finished layover facility in anticipation of GO’s Richmond Hill northward expansion. A new passenger station coming soon to nearby Gormley, just south of here, will be the last stop on the daily commuter runs. I’m standing on the first chunk of track that will take trains into the new GO yard where they will spend evenings and weekends. |
