Worthless crossing signals
This is just north of Cuthbert GA on the recently 4 laned U.S. 27. The rail line is part of the former SAL line that ran from Tallahassee to Columbus via Richland. If you look closely as the line goes towards the right you will see that the trackage is overgrown with weeds and trees. Thats because this line is actually abandoned at the the point seen here. There was a woodyard to the right of this photo but has been closed for many years. The rail line is never used BUT has received new crossing signals. What a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Andre Wehrle General lol I've heard this isn't the only case of such an installation happening on disused track. 10/19/2006 12:42:33 PM
Ashley Rodriguez General that freeway still looks closed lol. Theres a intersection like that on a bnsf line in socal 3/17/2007 12:35:04 AM
Frankie Grove General I believe there were plans to re-habillitate those tracks at one time. The Cusseta-Cuthbert ROW is still owned by the GADOT, so they must be planning to fix it up if they installed these new crossing signals. 7/29/2007 11:54:52 PM
Jerry LaBoda General If the line is railbanked then some state do install signals in case of future use. If it were abandoned the rails would have been pulled up at the crossing. 4/16/2008 12:23:55 AM
Ken Roble General The tracks are gone where the tracks at the right bow around some distance from this location. There's a dirt road north of the crossing on the northbound side that crosses where the tracks were near Benevolence, GA. There was a DDT house there but it had sucumbed with the track removal. 3/20/2011 12:32:07 PM
