Thanks to several people (see comments below) who left comments when I ran into trouble researching this unusual photo of a cab marked "Frisco" but a C&EI tender. This was originally built by Alco-Schenectady in 1904 as Chicago & Indiana Coal Rwy #229 which was under C&EI control. The H-5 class was absorbed into the CEI in 1911 which was in turn under the control of the SLSF (Frisco) RR. It was renumbered 873 and reclassified as C-39. The locos were eventually scrapped in Danville, IL, in July of 1934. Original Specs - serial #29064, class H-5, 58" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 21x30" cylinders, engine weight of 182,000 lb, tractive effort of 38,778 lb. JameM Bowie was the photographer. Althouth it took me awhile to get the page updated, I want to thanks to Robert Beichler, Grayson Warbritton, and Chuck Zeiler for their assistance. |
