David Garon General BB25214 is a four-axle, two-motor dual-service electric locomotive capable of operating on 1500 volts DC or 25000 volts AC. This type of locomotive pulled the prestigious "Mistral" passenger train on the Marseilles-Nice run in the late 1960's, and still operates in regional passenger service today. Known as a "Jacquemin" type in common with several similar classes, it is directly descended from the prototype BB9004 which reached 180 MPH in the 1950's. BB25214, now geared for 78 MPH top speed, is currently assigned to the Rennes maintenance centre. Many locomotives of the "Jacquemin" type still bear the elegant "Nile green" paint scheme shown here 10/23/2004 8:46:24 PM
