Union Pacific Railroad boiler car B-2 at Grand Island, Nebraska on an unknown day in November 1963, Kodachrome by Dick Rumbolz, Chuck Zeiler collection. According to utahrails.net, B-2 was built as a tender for C&O 2-8-8-2 locomotive number 1574, built by Baldwin in January 1926 (locomotive c/n 58966). Retired by the C&O, it was purchased by the UP in 1945 assigned UP number 3589. The tender was classed 21-RC-1564, and the locomotive and tender were retired in April 1947. The tender was rebuilt to boiler car B-2 in January 1950, retired in May 1971, renumbered to UP 903032 in September 1971, retired in July 1972. |
