Amtrak 9201, named STARLIGHT DOME, at 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as a 5 Roomette - 3 Double Bedroom dome sleeper by Budd in 1948 as C&O 1851 (named CHAMBERLIN DOME, not applied), it was sold in December 1950 to B&O and renumbered 7601 and named STARLIGHT DOME, leased to the ACL (12/65-4/66) for Richmond-Miami 'Florida Special', to CN #648 (lease 5/66-3/68) for 'Expo '67', SCL (lease 7/68), sold to SCL in July 1969 and renumbered 6801, sold in 1970 to Hamburg Industries Augusta SC - refurbished and leased back to SCL (with Hamburg Ind. ownership plates), sold to Amtrak in 1971 and renumbered to 9201, retired October 1981. It suffered fire damage to the first bedroom in Old Mexico yards at Los Angeles 11/81, to American GK/Paul McKeehan (8/84) Canoga Park CA, rebuilt with end windows on the non-vestibule end as well as wrap-around fluting as the STARLIGHT ROMANCE - in Tustin CA for mechanical work to be completed by Bill Hatrick. Moved early 2006 to storage in Saugus CA. |
