On display outside the old train shed of the CNJ Jersey City terminal. This caboose was part of an order by the Erie Lackawanna for ten cabooses to be built by the International Car Company in 1970, this particular car becoming EL C-374. The last cabooses built for the railroad, they would head to the Delaware & Hudson upon the formation of Conrail. C-374 was one of the few the D&H sold to NJ Transit for work train service. Donated to Liberty State Park for display upon retirement, this relic of the rails recalls a time when this bit of urban green space was a sprawling railroad yard, handling hundreds of freight and passengers each and every day. |
