The train isnt so much the focal point here as are the signals. The LIRR was a Pennsy stepchild from 1900 to 1965, and adopted many of its parents practices, among them the position light signals here. They were always much cooler than color lights, especially in rush hour when the operator at Nassau would clear the routes as soon as a train passed. This made for interesting signa; watching, as they went through the sequence from stop to clear. Here we have one at stop on track 1, and a clear board for the next eastbound on track 2.
