Auto-Train Steam Generator car 130 at Sanford, Florida on an unknown day in February 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 130 was built by Alco in 1926 as a tender for a Northern Pacific Railway Class A 4-8-4. The tender was classed 43e by the NP and was assembeed with rivets, later NP tenders were welded. Auto-Train's U36B's did not have steam generators, so until conversion to HEP, this car (and at least two other ex-NP tenders, AT 131 and 133) supplied steam heat. The letter F is painted on the forward louvered access door, indicating this end is the Front of the car. |
