Another road that would disappear, the P&LE, was still a viable operation in the 1980s, having escaped Conrail in 1976. The next 15 years would bring many changes, and it eventually had most of its traffic dry up. The one time NYC subsidiary-see the NYC herald on the close end of the car-would be acquired by CSX, whose B&O had used it for trackage rights around Pittsburgh for many years. One of its gons is on this westbound on NS at Ft Wayne, with a load of pipe.
