Tom Scott General The wood tank car was not supposed to have been scrapped. The wooden tank, which had deteriorated to the point of being more egg-shaped than round, was supposed to be dismantled so the metal part could be stored outside. What actually happened was the dismantling crew torch-cut the steel tank bands and cross braces off the car to make dismantling "easier" ruining those parts. Then the steel bulkheads were cut off. That made restoration impractical. The frame survived for a time, but was eventually scrapped, too. The trucks, air brake parts, and man-hole hatch survive, as does the steel cross bracing as tie spacers on Heath Trestle near White Heath. 8/29/2024 10:47:16 AM
