When the Norfolk & Western Railway absorbed the neighboring Virginian Railway, one of the first things to go was the VGN's overhead electrical catenary system, and the powerful motors that went with it. CR 4601 was part of this fleet that was sold by N&W to the New Haven for freight service on their electric lines in New York and Connecticut. Very similar to the PRR E-44, this motor was constructed by GE in 1956. Once part of the RMNE collection, it has since been sold to the Illinois Railway Museum of Union, IL and awaits future movement west for restoration. |
