Rail Dome Corporation's Former CB&Q Budd Dome coach 4726, named SILVER RIVER, at Overland Park, Kansas on an unknown day in April 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This car was built by Budd on Job 9646-015, ordered in July 1947, delivered in October 1947, intended for service on the third Twin Cities Zephyr. Forward of the dome were 20 coach seats, under were the men's and Women's restrooms, and behind the dome was a 34 seat coach section. After the BN merger, this car was assigned BN 5481, not applied, sold to Amtrak, becoming AMTK 9541, retired in November 1977, sold in September 1978 to Gerome Bulock/Building Leasing Corp., to Tom Johnson/Rail Dome Corp., (800174) in 1986, to Northern Rail Car Cudahy WI (1987), Henry Quadrachi/Quad Graphics Hartland WI (6/88), brokered thru Kasten Railcar to VIA 524 (1989) - stored inactive Montreal (2000). Under the "B" end is a specially fabricated (not cast GSI) truck, possibly installed by the Aurora shops of the CB&Q. Car stripped, then sold to Gateway Coach/Ben Butterworth and moved to ITAC 12/06-1/07. Also seen are ex-CB&Q 4709, named SILVER CASTLE, one of two pattern domes converted by CB&Q's Aurora, Illinois shops from Budd flat top coaches, ex-CB&Q 320, named SILVER GARDEN, and the last car was ex-C&O 1850, once named MOONLIGHT DOME. |
