CN local crosses the former C&NW swing bridge over the Fox River Navigation Canal at Kaukauna, WI on 11 Aug. '15. The Warren pony truss bridge was built in 1893, according to http://bridgehunter.com. I suspect the metal components in the foreground might be for repairs to the bridge. The rehabilitation of the Kaukauna locks is nearly complete and they are scheduled to reopen in a couple of weeks (they haven't been opened since 1984), which means the bridge will need to swing again. The local has just finished servicing Expera Specialty Solutions, originally Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co., and must now ascend a significant grade back up to the main line. |
