In 1995 (the year I was born), the Union Pacific Railroad bought out the remaining shares of the Ciicago and North Western Transportation Co. (CNW) for over $1.2 billion. Twenty years later, two of the last order of units purchased by the CNW (in May of 1994) still roam the rails wearing their unpatched CNW paint. After catching CNW #8701 in August of 2014, I am happy say that after Friday, April 17, 2015, I have photographed both of the last two unpatched Chicago and Northwestern C44-9Ws! Friday afternoon I chased CNW #8646 from Youngstown to Akron. At 1:21pm, westbound intermodal train Q137 passed through Youngstown, Ohio with one of the two last originally painted Chicago and Northwestern locomotives in the lead. CNW #8626 (C44-9W) and CSX #5369 (ES40DC) are seen approachina Center Street in Youngstown, Ohio. |
