By about 1980, Conrail was retiring the last of its inherited camp cars (sleeping accommodation for track workers), which has been converted from old passenger equipment. Quite a few of these retired cars were sitting around Toledo, OH awaiting scrapping. Here, at Air Line Yard on 12 October 1981 a former-PC/PRR sleeper (postwar PRR RAPIDS series 10-6 sleeper) and former RPO (Railway Post Office)(PRR BM70m Bag-RPO) car await the torch. In the background the "camper on flatcar" accommodation that replaced them. |
