CRIP 2-10-2 #3003 - Rock Island  Contributor's Pick!       
Obviously this 1918 Alco-Brooks Santa Fe type 2-10-2 locomotive has reached the point of no return. According to SteamLocomotives.com "Even with 63" drivers, [they] had counterbalancing problems and were limited to 30 mph. Later refitting with disk drivers ameliorated the pounding." After nearly 28 years of service, the loco was retired and scrapped in March of 1941. Specifics - class N-83, 63" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 3-x32" cylinders, engine weight of 385,400 lb, impressive tractive effort of 83,543 lbs., scrapped between 1939-52 No date, location or photographer listed for this photo.
