WDAX 3 Specialty Car
WDAX 3 Specialty Car "State of Washington Department of Agriculture Weight & Measures" on the end of a mixed freight in Vancouvers north yard area. (Not even sure what type railcar to call it - hopefully someone else saw it first since its been rolling around since 1970 according to the stamp on the side. On first brush, wouldve potentially called it a track cleaning car to put into random consists to run around the circuit to reduce hand cleaning the rails.) ((2021 Note: Yes, it is a scale calibration / certification car as correctly noted in the comments by Sir Konda below. My apologies to the joke about 'size scale' model railroading and the need to run a track-cleaning (conducting metal rail on the less than 1:1 tabletop model railroads.) When RRPA.Net has us post pictures, we're given a list to choose a rolling stock descriptor (boxcar, covered hopper, etc.) - fumble thumbs Bob (being nearly legally blind) didn't see the option for "Scale Test Car" / clicked on the next one down "Speciality Car" resulting in the other half of my unskilled attempt at humor (Funny: there's a reason there are professional comedians. And I'm not one of them. 8) ) Thanks for the additional info and correction!))

Xera Konda General I don't think it is for cleaning, more likely explanation is that the weight of this car has been calibrated to a precise weight, and it will go to grain elevators and the like to test that the scales which measure how heavy a car is, is accurate. Because those scales are used to work out how much commodity is in the rail car, and therefore how much the farmer gets paid. 8/14/2021 1:35:56 PM
