Good Day. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad property in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, 25 July 1960. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8663, #8657, and #8675. All are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8663 and #8675 were built in 1958, but #8657 was built in 1957. From here, they will pass the WYE Tower, climb the Allegheny Mountains via the Muleshoe Curve, and then merge with the westbound mainline at Gallitzin. On the far side of the Gallitzin tunnels, these pusher engines will uncouple and head back to East Altoona via the Horseshoe Curve for another run up the Allegheny Mountains. This photo was taken at the Juniata River Railroad Bridge, near Bedford Street and the Passenger Station. #12 of 12. |
