Post card I bought at an antique store. On back of card: “Daylight” locomotive 4449 is seen heading north on the Southern Pacific “Shasta Route”. The train has crested the railroad’s highest point on the line, the 5,063-foot summit at Grass Lake, California. Here at Bray it is descending from the shoulders of Mt. Shasta to Butte Valley, and then on to Klamath Falls, Oregon. Photograph by noted S.P. historian Robert J. Church D.D.S., courtesy of Central Valley Railroad Publications. Date of 1984 on card. An official souvenir of the Louisiana World’s Fair Daylight. Date is approximate. |
