Union Pacific train ZLAMQ-13 climbs the grade through San Timoteo Canyon on August 13, 2016, as UP ES44AC 8134, SD70M 4285 and ES44AC 7705 (with UP ES44AC 8062 on the rear) work hard to lift this 7954-foot train over the mountains. This is the old Southern Pacific Sunset Route, and the summit of this pass is Beaumont, for which this mountain crossing is named (Beaumont Hill) as trains head east out of southern California for Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and points east. |
