PRR 5809, EP-22, 1966
Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train near Union Furnace, Pennsylvania, on 16 April 1966. Shown here is PRR engine #5809 and two other units whose numbers are not visible. #5809 is an EP-22 built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. They are pulling an eastbound mail/express train. This photo was taken where the tracks bridge the Little Juniata River west of the stone quarry crossing, just off of State Route 453. In later years, #5809 was reconditioned in 1975 and placed in active excursion service ~ first with the Juniata Terminal, later with Mr. Bennett Levin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
