PRR X-56 Underframes, #1 of 3, 1965
SRS. Here is the first of three original photos that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad rolling stock in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 10 April 1965. Shown here are eight pairs of prefabricated underframes for new X-56 "Cushion Cars." In the good old days of THE Altoona Works, underframes such as these were made in-house ~ not purchased from subcontractors. Visible in the foregound is the Bedford-Cumberland Secondary Track as it passes under the Union Street Bridge.
