Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engine #9676 and two more "EF" Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9676 is an EF-15A built in 1949. They are at the end of a 100-car eastbound coal train passing under the State Route 53 Bridge, just West of Gallitzin, their purpose being to help brake the train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains. Also visible is N-8 cabin car #478034. |
