Hazy. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Penn Central Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during July of 1973. Shown here (R to L) are PC engine #2638 and another unit whose number is not recorded. #2638 is a U-25B built by General Electric in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower; its original PRR number was "2538." They are pulling a merchandise freight train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve through Altoona to Enola and points East. The famous Brick Plant is just up around the curve, to the left. Photo taken just West of the 24th Street Bridge. |
