| This station, built in 1884, served passengers looking to travel to the town of Gettysburg as interest in the historic battlefields in the later years of the 19th century began to increase. In 1891 the depot became part of the Philadelphia & Reading Railroad system as part of their takeover of the Gettysburg & Harrisburg. Passenger service under the Reading Company would continue until 1941 due to highway competition and it would be a few decades before the station saw passengers again. After a few years as the originating point for various tourist excursions for different operators, the most recent being Pioneer Lines Scenic Railway, the 132 year old building is quiet again with only freight trains passing on the tracks outside. |
