As a child nothing could beat hearing the sound of an approaching train off in the distance then to watch each car pass me by and the icing on the cake, the caboose. Unfortunately, with the very limited use of cabooses in todays time, all my little one and her generation will ever reminisce of the caboose is the pictures they see and time spent trying to climb on them while on display on town property such as this. Much to my surprise the inside is in just as good shape as the outside now only visible through the windows as it is closed to the public. Little info is known about this caboose it is lettered N&W 518391 but a goggled search has yielded info that it possibly was once NPR #780 crafted at the Ironville, Ohio shops. |
