In the summer of 1973 Amtrak regularly assigned cars 9300 SILVER VIEW and 9301 SILVER VISTA to the PANAMA LIMITED. These had been built by Budd in 1947 as Burlington dome-parlor-observation cars 360 and 361 for the TWIN ZEPHYR, but Amtrak was using them as lounge cars. Here was SILVER VISTA leaving New Orleans on No. 58, as viewed from the Jefferson Davis Parkway overpass. The other dome car was the 9801, built in 1952 as Burlington coach-dormitory-coffee shop car 321 SILVER PATIO for the KANSAS CITY and AMERICAN ROYAL ZEPHYRS. (approximate day) |
