Photo Caption: "Flexible-Beam Engine. Baldwin, whose engines are an inseparable part of the Pennsylvania tradition, made a fortune on the flexible-beam type driving wheel arrangement which permitted lateral play of two sets of drivers by means of a secondary, pivoted frame. This eliminated binding of the flanges on six- and eight-coupled freight haulers. Bellefonte & Snow Shoe Railroad's 3-spot made use of the design." |
