The former LV Sayre shops were, at the time of this photo(and may still be) run by GE Railcar, which did contract rebuilding and wreck repairs. It was a busy place, and some days, ALCG and CGAL set off and picked up significant numbers of cars here. Among the many odd and obscure items that turned up here was a set of Rock Island gons, in full RI lettering and excellent paint. The only thing not RI on these cars were the reporting marks, which were assigned to GE Railcar, and later to Wells Fargo.. Almost a quarter century after Rocks demise, and long after just about everything Rock had disappeared from the American rail scene, who ever would have thought something like this would turn up in Sayre PA?? |
