After the New York, New Haven & Hartford was merged into Penn Central and its successor went bankrupt, a Government-funded organization known as Conrail, the Consolidated Rail Corporation, took control of the Berkshire Line, while passenger service on the line ended under the control of Penn Central, Conrail operated many of local freight trains over the line with switcher or road switcher locomotives, this EMD SW9, built for the PRR and later owned by Conrail, may have very well once seen itself powering a local along the Housatonic River on the Berkshire Line at some point in its past. |
