Missouri Pacific Railroad caboose 13023 departing Cotter, Arkansas, on February 3, 1991, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Not a steam locomotive, but two GP38-2's after idling in the Cotter Yard overnight while the crew rested. Some of the smoke is soot, but some is condensation from the White River, which is adjacent to the yard. Upon reaching the yard limit ( 10 mph limit), the hogger would haul back on the throttle to clear the accumulated material out of locomotives until road speed ( 35mph ) was achieved. And, for the record, this train had not yet passed the Yard Limit sign. |
