CN local crosses the former C&NW bridge over the Fox River as it services the Expera Specialty Solutions paper mill at Kaukauna, WI on 8 Jul. '17. From its founding in 1883 until 26 Jun. '13, the Kaukauna paper mill was Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. (a.k.a. Thilmany, LLC or Thilmany Papers). Bridge was built by American Bridge Co. of New York in 1911. The oldest portion of the original Thilmany mill, saved from the wrecking ball and restored, stands in the foreground; currently home to the Kaukauna Public Library and offices for Expera Specialty Solutions. Several large additions to the mill loomed out of frame to the left, until they were destroyed in 2013. The patch of gravel passing between the mill and the river bank used to be Thilmany Rd. |
