Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad Diner 202, named Silver Tureen, date, location, and photographer unknown, CB&Q Public Relations photograph, Chuck Zeiler collection. I'm guessing that the photo was shot at Budd's Red Lion Plant in Philadelphia around October 1956. The photo has the following attached: "# 24-169 Burlington's Diner for the Denver Zephyr between Chicago, Denver, and Colorado Springs. Train features Vista-Domes and the new Slumbercoach, all built by Budd." And the following is from the book, The Passenger Car Library Volume 1 - CB&Q: Job 9624-169 - 2 Dining cars ordered 2/55, delivered 10/56. Dining cars 201 - Silver Chef and 202 - Silver Tureen provided first class dining for the passengers. The cars ran on the Denver Zephyr until they were sold to Amtrak in 1972. Finally, the following is excerpted from the book, Amtrak By The Numbers: CB&Q 202, Silver Tureen, became Amtrak 8055, rebuilt to HEP in September 1979 and renumbered to 8501, retired by Amtrak in March 2007. |
