Nice photo by A. L. Douchette of the last 4-6-2 Pacific built by Alco-Schenectady in 1924 for Maine Central. A note on the back of the photo states "#470 The l.ast steam engine to run on the MECRR - from Portland to Bangor 6/13/54 (last passenger run)." Specs - class C-3, 73" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt 268,300 lb, tractive effort of 37,697 lb. Rebuilt in 1933 by the MEC shops. Now on display in Waterville, ME. UPDATE - thanks to Jerry LaBoda (see comment below), this loco is now under restoration with its future as a beautiful operating locomotive again! |
