Thomaston Railroad Station
This very elegant brick station has stood since 1881, when it was constructed by the original Naugatuck Railroad. The station and adjacent rail line became under New Haven Railroad control in 1887 under lease, with the larger company merging the Naugatuck into the larger system in 1906. NH passenger service ended here in the late 1950s with the station falling into disrepair over the decades. The Railroad Museum of New England began restoring the structure in 1996 and work has since continued both inside and out to return the building to its former glory. As can be seen here, they have done an excellent job so far in the restoration. The building is now the home of the museum and its operating subsidiary Naugatuck Railroad, with their many different historic excursions originating at this point for trips along this historic railroad line.
