Here is a photo that was included in the "Altoona Area Railroad Pictorial History" edited by Linda White and published in 1996 by The Altoona Mirror, page 9. Photo Caption: "K-4 engine No. 623 takes on sand at the East Altoona Coal Wharf in this photo taken in the 1940s. Coal and water also were replinished at the facility, which was razed in 1968." Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #623, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during July of 1917 and retired in May of 1948 after 31 years of faithful service.
