CN local passes the Rat River Wildlife Area and approaches the junction with the former C&NW right-of-way, now the Wiouwash State Trail, as it heads southeast via former SOO rails at Medina Junction, WI on 15 Oct. '17. Train was returning from Waupaca, WI. The clumps of trees to either side of the locomotive mark the former site of a steam locomotive servicing facility. If the direction of view in the photograph (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/Content.aspx?dsNav=N:4294963828-4294963814&dsRecordDetails=R:IM24898) on the Wisconsin Historical Society website is labeled accurately, a coaling tower and other structures stood to the left of the train. A water tower and other structures stood to the right. Remnants of the foundations on the right side are still in place, remnants on the left side were demolished in May of this year. |
