Almost invisible in the shed next to the lumber mill is this 1920 Lima built Shay. Originally built as a narrow gauge loco, it was converted by Lima to standard gauge for Hillcrest Lumber Company at the original purchase price of $14,428. It was converted to an oil burner and sold to the Mayo Lumber Co in 1943 and again in 1947 to Osborn Bay Wharf Co. Eventually donated to the Cowichan Valley Forest Museum which became the BC Forest Discovery Centre. The Hillcrest Shay is out of service pending builer work.
