KCS Deramus Yard (6)
Members of the Kansas City Southern Historical Society were inspecting this unfortunate pair of GP30’s at Deramus Yard during the organization’s 1983 convention in Shreveport. On 28 December 1977 northbound KCS train 66 (running as Extra 4102 North) was en route from Alexandria to Minden, Louisiana with GP30's 4102 and 4116, when it hit a loaded log truck at the Vine St. grade crossing in Goldonna. Twenty-two cars derailed, including a tank car loaded with 31,000 gallons of LPG which ruptured and exploded. The two men on the 4102 did not survive and at least 10 others were injured, including a crew member on the caboose and the truck driver.
