From a track workers perspective crossings are always a pain in the... well you know where. Fussy work that has to be done right the first time. You can go back and fix something but you sure would rather not ever have to. This crossing at Harmony Grove on MD State Rt 355 is about 100 feet long and is going to be rebuilt in the coming weeks. On this date we removed all the old lag bolts holding the exposed timbers to the under lying ties. Our best guess is that this crossing was last attended to in the late Pennsy days c1975. Since neither rail shows any movement when a locomotive traverses the crossing the ties must be in reasonble condition. That is the 11AM train headed south in the distance. /DL |
