| Volkmer. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by William D. Volkmer that was taken in Erie, Pennsylvania, on 24 August 1958. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5785 and two more "BF" Class units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. #5785 was constructed as a BP-20 passenger unit in November of 1948 (rated at 2,000 horsepower), rebuilt in 1952 as a BF-16Z freight unit (rated at 1,600 horsepower), and retired in 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. |
