The stuff that saved Minnesota's mining industry...         
Taconite pellets pave the roadbed on the DM&IR mainline in Saginaw, MN. These pellets are concentrated iron ore, crushed and mixed with bentonite clay and limestone, then baked, to create distinctive brown-purple marble-sized pellets. They are then moved to the steel mills where they are melted in basic oxygen blast furnaces and are the principle ingredient in American steel.
