EB CP Thompson Sub. Train across the Thompson River is WB on the CN Ascroft Sub, through the tunnels and rock sheds at Skoonka. This photo clearly demonstrates that the CP, who was the first one to build through the valley (1880-1885), took the much easier path while the CN, who came in later, had to slug it out with numerous tunnels and rock sheds on the other side of the river. Starting in 2000 the railroads agreed to a directional running plan where the CP Thompson Sub handles all the EB traffic and the CN Ashcroft Sub handles all the WB traffic. The lines revert to their owner railroads exclusively about 25 miles east of this point at a connector track just east of Basque. |
