Burlington Northern Railroad 968105 at about Halsted Street in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 968105 was built by Budd for the CB&Q on Job 945, ordered in October 1937, delivered in February 1938, numbered 4700 and named SILVER CHARIOT, one of three 52-seat coaches built on that order. It was first assigned to the ARISTOCRAT, a daily train between Chicago and Denver, later assigned to the general passenger pool. Cars built by Budd before WWII had the cutouts for the trucks as seen here, after the war, the stainless steel skirting was carried over the trucks. |
