PRR 5538, T-1, c. 1946
Duplexes. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Chicago, Illinois, c. 1946. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #5538, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during June of 1946 and retired in December of 1953 after just seven years of revenue service. In this context, it's pulling a streamlined passenger train on the first leg of its journey from The Windy City to Gotham City. "Please fasten your seatbelts!"
