A CN local pauses near the former C&NW depot at Kaukauna, WI on 9 Aug. '18. The depot was built in 1947 at the intersection of Depot St. and Draper St., to replace the old, wooden depot. Designed in the Art Moderne style, it originally had flat roofs. The current, gabled roofs were added at some point after 1983. It became known as the north side depot after 1890, when the MLS&W, later C&NW, built their large, ornate depot south of the Fox River. That depot disappeared many years ago. Local had just finished servicing the Expera Specialty Solutions (originally Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co.) paper mill and was waiting for a through freight to pass before heading back to Neenah. Train had two locomotives, IC 3115 and GTW 4927. |
