| A CN local crosses the former joint MILW/SOO bridge over the South Channel (Neenah Channel) of the Fox River at Neenah, WI on 12 Aug. '18. This was my first encounter with a train here since the new Loop-the-Lake bridge opened to the public (the ribbon cutting ceremony for this and the similar bridge in Menasha was held 23 Jun. '18). The pair of new bridges are part of Neenah and Menasha's Loop-the-Lake project to connect existing recreational trails in the Twin Cities. This new view of the railroad bridge is interesting, but I will miss the once panoramic view of this bridge from the river bank. The Neenah-Menasha YMCA, Island Shores Retirement Community, N. Commercial St. Bridge, and Neenah Paper mill (an active rail customer) are visible in the background to the right. |
