After the PELICAN was discontinued in June 1968, it was very unusual to find a Southern locomotive at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal during the day; but here is E8A 6915 parked outside the diesel shop in 1976. The unit had been left in New Orleans because of some problem which had to be fixed before it could hit the road. It was wearing the THOMAS JEFFERSON decal it received for America’s bicentennial. The locomotive was built for the New Orleans & Northeastern (NO&NE), but its sublettering was change to AGS after the NO&NE was merged into the Alabama Great Southern in 1969. |
