Altoona Action. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken near the 4th Street Footbridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 3 November 1960. Shown here is Pittsburgh & West Virginia engine #40, an AS-616 road switcher built by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in May of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and leased to the Pennsylvania Railroad. The PRR later purchased it, renumbered it "8114," and retired it September of 1967 after just 16 years of combined service. In this context, it's parked near the 4th Street Footbridge and SOUTH Tower. Produced & distributed by Charly's Slides. |
